What is AR Typing Test?
AR Typing Test is a free online English and Hindi typing speed test on artypingtest.com. Choose a 1, 2, 5 or 10-minute session, type the highlighted words, and check your words per minute (WPM), accuracy and letter errors. You can review missed words and practise them again without creating an account.
This homepage is for a quick speed check, beginner practice and improving accuracy. It accepts Unicode Hindi from your device keyboard. It does not provide a built-in Kruti Dev keyboard, an official exam score or a typing certificate.

Start with one minute to learn the controls. Use a longer session when you want to see whether you can keep the same pace. A short result and a long result are different practice conditions, so compare attempts with the same settings.

Change the duration above before typing. The passage continues as you progress and can cycle to fill your chosen time. Selecting End test produces a shortened attempt, not a completed full-duration result.
English typing test: easy words or sentences?
Choose Easy words if you are still finding the keys. Choose Sentences to practise capitals and punctuation as well as letters. Copy the text as shown: a capital letter and a lowercase letter are different.
The homepage checks one word at a time. Backspace can fix the current word; Space or Enter submits it. Submitted words are locked. For connected text, try the paragraph typing test. For vocabulary you choose, open the custom typing test.
How to improve typing accuracy after a test
- Read your missed-word list before restarting. Look for the same letter, capital or punctuation mistake.
- Select Practise my mistakes when it is available. The tool builds a one-minute drill from your missed words.
- Retry the same test at a comfortable pace. Aim to make fewer errors before pushing for a higher WPM.
- Copy your score if you want to keep a record. This tool does not save a progress history.

Typing test not working? Check these first
What is a good typing speed for me?
A useful target depends on the task and its accuracy requirements. Begin with your own result, repeat under the same conditions and aim for fewer errors before increasing speed. If you need a job or exam threshold, use the current official notice rather than a general online average.
The timer has not started
Click the typing box and enter a letter. Start typing only focuses the input; it does not start the clock by itself. If the controls remain disabled after loading, check that JavaScript is enabled and reload the page.
Hindi mode still types English letters
Selecting Hindi changes the passage, not your device keyboard. Enable a Unicode Hindi input method in your device settings, then try typing Hindi in a text editor. Return to the test once the correct letters appear.
The next word is not selected
Press Space or Enter after each word. If your Hindi keyboard is still composing a character, finish that composition first. Use Skip only when you want to move on and count the missing letters as errors.
My phone changes the word I type
Keyboard suggestions and autocorrect can change your result. Turn them off for a more direct practice attempt. Compare phone scores with phone scores; use a physical keyboard when practising for a computer-based task.
My score is different on another website
Check the duration, passage difficulty, allowed corrections and scoring formula. Some tools count words, others count characters, and exam rules can apply separate penalties. Use the scoring explanation below to understand this tool's result.
Know what your score means
How typing speed and accuracy are calculated
Speed tells you how fast you type. Accuracy tells you how much of your text is right. Try to get the words right before you try to go faster.
AR Typing Test gives a practice score for English and Hindi. It is not an official exam result.
Each word is checked on its own. You can fix the current word with Backspace. Once you press Space, that word is finished. Fixing a mistake takes time, but a mistake you fix does not lower your final accuracy.

Example: 250 matching character units in 60 seconds = 50 effective WPM. With 10 additional character errors, text accuracy is 250 ÷ 260 × 100 = 96.2%.
How we count letters and mistakes
Scoring detail: text is normalized to Unicode NFC and counted by Unicode code point, including submitted spaces. Hindi combining marks can count separately, so compare Hindi scores within this tool, not directly with English or an exam's keystroke formula. An unfinished word is scored against its best-matching prefix; its unattempted ending is not counted as an error. Selecting Skip counts the remaining missing characters as errors. A drill repeats its word list; standard passages cycle as needed to fill the selected duration.

Hindi typing test: Unicode keyboard setup
Select Hindi above, then enable a Unicode Hindi keyboard in your device settings. The tool compares the Devanagari text your keyboard produces. It does not install InScript or Remington, or convert legacy Kruti Dev-encoded text.

Is AR Typing Test free to use?
Yes. This homepage test is free and needs no account. Select a language and time, then start typing. No typing software download is required.
How do I start the timer?
Click Start typing or the input box, then type your first character. Clicking Start alone does not run the clock. Press Space or Enter to submit each word. The timer keeps running if you switch tabs or leave the input.
Can I take a full five- or ten-minute test?
Yes. Choose a duration before starting. More words load as you progress, and passages cycle if needed. The session ends when time expires, not when the first passage ends. End test lets you finish early; the result clearly identifies a shortened attempt.
What is the difference between gross and effective WPM?
Gross WPM counts the characters you submit, including incorrect ones. Effective WPM counts matching characters. Both divide by five and by elapsed minutes. Neither is an official exam net-WPM formula.
Why does my score differ from another typing website?
Text difficulty, punctuation, duration, correction rules and counting methods change the result. This test uses word-by-word comparison and a documented character-matching method. Compare repeated tests using the same settings.
Does Hindi mode include a Kruti Dev keyboard?
No. It accepts Unicode Devanagari from your system keyboard. A Unicode Hindi input method can work, but legacy Kruti Dev text is not converted. Choose the required input method on your device before starting.
Can I use my phone?
Yes, the controls work on small screens. A phone keyboard, suggestions, voice input and autocorrect can change the result, so use a physical keyboard for comparable speed tests. Turn off assistance when you want to measure your own typing.
Is my typing saved or uploaded?
This homepage tool keeps typed text and results in page memory. Its code does not send them to a server or save them in browser storage. Restarting clears the current session, and reloading clears the results. Copy score copies a summary only when you request it. Website hosting, analytics or other plugins may separately process visit data.
