What this tool does that others do not
A WPM number is not a diagnosis
If you type 28 WPM and your exam needs 30, knowing the number does not tell you what to fix. AR Typing Test does these three things instead.
Full and half mistakes
Government skill tests do not count errors the way normal typing sites do. A wrong or missing word is a full mistake. A capital letter slip or a single letter error inside a longer word is a half mistake. Your score here uses that split.
The keys costing you marks
Every wrong keystroke is recorded against the key you were supposed to hit. At the end you see a heat map of your own keyboard. Most people find three or four keys causing more than half their errors.
Practice made from your data
Generic practice text wastes your time on keys you already type well. The drill below your scorecard is built only from words containing your weak keys, so every minute of practice goes where the loss is.

No hidden maths. Here is every formula this tool uses, so you can check the result yourself.
Some commissions also express the requirement in keystrokes per hour instead of WPM. As a rough guide, 8,000 key depressions per hour is close to 27 WPM, and 10,500 is close to 35 WPM. AR Typing Test: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a full mistake and a half mistake?
A full mistake is a word that is wrong, missing, or added. A half mistake is a smaller slip inside an otherwise correct word, such as a wrong capital letter or one incorrect character in a longer word. Two half mistakes are usually counted as one full mistake. Exact definitions vary by commission, so read your notification.
Why is my net WPM lower on AR Typing Test than on other typing sites?
Because most sites report gross WPM or only subtract errors loosely. AR Typing Test subtracts every incorrect character and then applies your exam's word level mistake rule on top. The number you see here is closer to what an evaluator would give you.
Can I practise Hindi typing for a government exam here?
Yes. Switch the language to Hindi and type using your own Mangal Inscript or Remington keyboard layout. The tool compares the Devanagari text you produce against the passage, so it works with whichever layout your system is set to. It does not install a layout for you, so set that up in your operating system first.
How long does it take to gain 10 WPM?
For most people, roughly three to six weeks of focused daily practice of fifteen to twenty minutes. The gain comes faster when you fix specific weak keys instead of retyping random paragraphs, which is the reason AR Typing Test builds a drill from your own error map.
Does the AR Typing Test work on a phone?
The page works on a phone, but an on screen keyboard cannot give you a realistic WPM and autocorrect will distort your accuracy. Use a laptop or desktop with a physical keyboard if you want a number you can trust. Your exam will use a physical keyboard too.
Is anything saved or sent anywhere?
No. The whole test runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, and no account is required. Refreshing the page clears everything.
